New Sponsors and Increasing Support!

>> Wednesday, July 21, 2010

We have amazing news!  We now have two more sponsors in the form of media partners who are going to feature our story in their magazine or online magazine.  The support and response we have received in general has been really encouraging and I think it is safe to say that our excitement is increasing by the day!  Thank you to Australia Geographic Magazine and Womans Sport Report.  To find out more about these magazines, click on the logos on this page or the sponsors page.

Shalane and I have also decided to raise money for one project that the Indigo Foundation are supporting.  The Solomon Islands project provides residential and short vocational courses for students in the AvuAvu area.  It also runs short courses for members of the local community on topics of high need and organising quality work programs to assist the local community members.  By raising $10,000 we will enable the project to be supported for another 2 whole years.  For more information on this project please visit www.indigofoundation.org/sols

$10,000 - Let's Raise the Bar

>> Friday, July 9, 2010

  • We have had such an amazing response from people and companies in such a short period of time that we have decided to raise our target!  We now hope to double the amont raised for the Indigo Foundation and make a HUGE $10,000.
  • The Indigo Foundation has many projects on the go at the moment, all of which are at different stages in their development.  Each project is initiated and run by the local communities themselves and although members of the Indigo Foundation help from their base regularly, they are only on location to see the progress roughly once a year.  This allows the communities who are in need of the development to make the changes themselves, and the changes they really need.  It's a fantastic process that doesn't involve simply throwing money in the rough direction and hoping for the best!  Please click on the link to the right to find out more about this great cause.

The Good News Keeps on Coming

As we coninue to work on the organisation of the trek, the positive reponses keep on flowing!

  • Along with us working hard to contact companies, Shalane received a parcel she had been waiting for from Canada which contained boxes of jewellry she made and she has been selling it at the local markets, donating 50% of all sales to the Indigo fondations!
  • We have been putting posters up around Broome to advertise the event and soon I will be leaving Broome so able to spread the word further afield.
  • I am really pleased to tell you that along with Swazi, New Zealand, who sponsored us by giving us a lot of great clothing for the trek, Back Country Cuisine who has really kindly given us a great deal on their freeze dried trekking food we now have another 2 sponsors.  First Training are giving us both an outdoor first aid course! We've had a fantastic response and I'd like to thank all those companies.  Please go to the sponsors page for links to their websites.
  • Yesterday, we also received an email from Adventure Travel Magazine who have kindly said they will write a story on our adventure with the possiblity us of featuring in a new up-and-coming section of their mag.
